At Little Steps Counselling, we believe that the child is all important.

Children and young people do not always have the words to express their emotions. By working in creative ways with toys, sand, clay, drawings and many other therapeutic interventions, they can be encouraged to express themselves in the way that feels comfortable to them.

Sadly, many children have not had early experiences that make them feel happy or secure. By being able to express these feelings, children and young people can be helped to feel happier and safer.  And a happier child copes better with life.

I am Julie Jakeman, known as Jules, a qualified therapist in counselling children and young people, I have worked in schools for over nine years, as well as the Place2Be, which focuses on counselling children in primary schools. Consequently, I well understand the issues children face today.  I have experience with working with children from the ages of 5-26 years  old, including those undergoing adolescent difficulties. I  work with children who have been sexually abused and have suffered trauma. I focus on Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, within a Person-Centred model. My main area of focus is on trauma, often the result of witnessing domestic violence; child sexual abuse; bereavement;  issues surrounding anxiety, OCD, and low self esteem.

My therapy suite in the tranquil Worcestershire countryside on a farm and is aimed to provide a safe, secure and peaceful place in which children and young people can  learn to relax and begin to discover that life is possible to be enjoyed again – step by gradual step.
